Wow! The 5th grade balloon made it to 96,329 ft. above sea level! Two volunteers walked over 8 miles to retrieve our payload, which landed just northeast of Elizabeth. While the balloon did not travel far laterally, it beat last year's balloon horizontally. It seems to have hung for at least an hour or more, very high in the atmosphere. It was suspended somewhere above the jet stream and out of range of our SPOT tracker, around 60,000 – 90,000 ft.
Observations indicate that the marshmallows swelled up, the Swiss cheese melted slightly and the popcorn and watch did not have any noticeable physical changes.
Picture: Jumbo sized marshmallows swelled to super jumbos around 90,000 ft.
Picture: 70,000 ft. from the other camera.
Picture: Around 20 seconds after take-off. It's Independence from the air!
